Eight premier league clubs will compete in the 2021 – 2022 Sapling Cup. The competition shall be played in double round league format. Each club must send no less than three local youth players (born on or after 1^st January 2000) at any time in each match.

Kitchee withstood a barrage of attack from Cerezo Osaka and forced the Japanese side to a 0:0 draw after ninety minutes. The newly gained point saw Kitchee completed the group stage as the runner-up of Group J behind Cerezo Osaka.
